It doesn’t matter he says he is from Leon, Zapatero, the Spanish Prime Minister, was born in Lopez Gomez St in the heart of Valladolid. Unlike Zapatero, Aznar, ex-PM, is from Madrid but was raised and educated in Valladolid in early stages. He also began his career as politician being president of the Autonomous Community of Castilla y Leon. The most powerful Spanish monarch ever, Philip II, was from Valladolid too. He even made Valladolid the capital of the empire for a few years in the sixteenth century. Philip IV another Habsburg was also born in Valladolid. The fascist party during Franco’s regime was also founded-it was the merge of 2 parties- in Valladolid in the Calderon Theatre. The University of Valladolid is also one of the oldest in Spain. Also we have famous writers like Miguel Delibes, Jose Zorrilla, Rosa Chacel and Jorge Guillen. (more…)
